Don served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He also served in Korea. As a civilian, he worked in maintenance for the WV Department of Highways. He was a former Heath Services Worker for the Spencer State Hospital and retired from his civilian work career with Westbrook Health Services where he loved working with his clients at their group home.

He dearly loved his devoted rat terrier, Bo. He enjoyed chewing his tobacco, watching WVU and Marshall football and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was a regular patron at Tudors Biscuit World and riding the electric cart at Walmart.
He loved his “other daughter,” Sandra “Sam” Nichols of Spencer, WV. She was more than a caregiver to Don; she was a very special friend.
His family also wishes to extend much heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio, for the excellent care and dignity to Don in his final days.
