Obituary for Laura Doraine "Sally" Skaggs (Skidmore)

Laura Doraine “Sally” Skaggs, 87, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia, passed away at her home on January 2, 2018, after a short illness.
Sally was born in Webster Springs, West Virginia on July 19, 1930. She was the daughter of Mabel (Ware) and Samuel Duffy Skidmore.
Sally spent the majority of her life as a homemaker. She helped her husband manage and operate the Chuckwagon Restaurant in Craigsville, WV for a number of years. She was also a cook at the Arnoldsburg Elementary School for a short time.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Karen (George) Settles of Arnoldsburg, WV; Son, Carl (Laura) Bragg of Milton, FL; Son, Joe (Jill) Skaggs of Arnoldsburg, WV; Step-daughter, Loueen O’Neil of Columbia, SC and step-son, Merlin Skaggs of Columbia, SC. As well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Many of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren are “step” in terms of technical relation, but blood didn’t matter to Sally as they were all her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Waymen “Bud” Skaggs. Also proceeded in death by her sister Mary Jo Tonkin, her brother Robert Skidmore, her step-son Larry Skaggs and her niece Judy Kern.
Sally loved for her friends and family to visit her, especially the little ones. She would sit and smile at the pitter-patter of little feet up and down the hallway, and would grin all throughout her grand-children’s demonstration of newly learned musical instruments. Since many of her family members lived out of town, she truly cherished any time they would come to visit and would eagerly look forward to their return the moment they left. Before she became ill, she loved shopping and going out to eat. Sally was a person who never met a stranger no matter where she went, and within a few minutes of talking to someone, they knew all of the latest news on just about everyone in her family. Sally was proud of those she loved and wanted to share them with the world. She was a truly unique person and she will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Leatherbark Community Church in Arnoldsburg. Viewing is to begin at 1 PM with services immediately following at 2 PM.
