Obituary for Charles Delbert Sampson

Charles Delbert Sampson, 80, of Grantsville, WV died August 1, 2018, at Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston, WV, following a short illness.

He was born February 16, 1938, at Altizer, Calhoun County, WV, son of the late Lovel O. and Maude “Neen” Kerby Sampson.

He began working at the age of 12 years old for G. W. Hardman Farms. He later was employed by Stalnaker’s Auto Sales, Umstead’s Sales & Repairs, Hugart Stump Dozer Sales & Repairs, Sav-A-Tool, Inc., Bernard Pipeline Company, WV Department of Highways and Carl Kelley Paving. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and operated Shaffer’s Place.

He is survived by wife, Linda Shaffer Sampson, son Richard C. “Bub” Sampson (wife, Neena), daughter Teresa White (husband Calvin), grandsons, Christopher and Jonathon Sampson, granddaughter, Becca Watts, great-grandsons, Brysten Sampson and Michael Watts, step-grandchildren, Nichole and Jonathan White (Cindy Nolan), step-great-grandchildren, Ryker Nedeff; Kimber, Jasmyn, and Kenzee White; and Hailey and Rylee Nolan, sister, Madeline June Godfrey (Fred).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by first wife, Phyllis Stull and infant son; brother, Donald Sampson; infant brother, Robert; and brother-in-law, Dolan Godfrey.

A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Ind., Arnoldsburg, WV on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Kevin Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening. Interment will be in Gibson Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.stumpfuneralhomes.com
