Betty Fern Holpp Weaver, 91 of Grantsville, passed peacefully into God’s presence on November 14, 2017 at Roane General Hospital. Betty Fern was born September 25, 1926, the daughter of the late Frank and Etta Holpp.
She grew up on Yellow Creek along with her late siblings, Vonda Gunn and Lewis Holpp. In addition to her parents and siblings, Betty Fern was preceded in death by her husband James Lauren Weaver and her son James Franklin Weaver, an infant sister Dorothy, grandson Eric Nathaniel Haymaker and great-granddaughter Ella Nicole Perkins.
Fern was retired from the United States Postal Service having served as postmaster at Mt Zion for 25 years. In the late 1940’s and through the 1950’s, Fern and Lauren operated grocery stores in Arnoldsburg and Ravenswood, WV.
Surviving children are, Linda and Mark Shock, Lora and Larry Sturm, David and Sandy Weaver, Martha and Hays Haymaker, and daughter in law Takayo Weaver and sister in law Orless Holpp.
Grandchildren and great grandchildren are, Brent and Sarah Sturm & Simon, Shelley and Kevin Harris and Jaxon & Avery, Jamie and Cary Child & Cole, Kelley and Gino Degregori and Sofia, Max, & Noah, Lisa and David Weaver, Jenny and Zachary Chancey & Khloe, Kara and Brendon Osborne and Abryanna & Elias, Heather and Phillip Perkins and Lily & Alie, Barbara and Whitney Kistler, Josh Haymaker, Caitlin Weaver, and Alex Weaver, a special double first cousin Melvin ‘Tiny’ Anderson, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Granny was a remarkable woman who instilled an appreciation of family and family values in all her children. Her greatest joys were the frequent gatherings of family on birthdays and holidays where she always wanted a family picture.
She was “Granny” to more than just her family, she counted the congregations of Mt Zion, Albert’s Chapel, Beech, and Orma United Methodist Churches family as well. Granny Fern was a 4-H leader, UMYF leader, Sunday School teacher and the oldest living member of the Mt Zion United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be held Friday November 17, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation in Arnoldsburg, WV.
Funeral will be held on Saturday November 18, 2017 at 1:00pm with Pastor Rick Metheny officiating.
Burial will be held at St Paul Cemetery, Mt Zion, WV. After the graveside service a fellowship dinner for family and friends will be held at the Mt Zion United Methodist Church, Mt Zion, WV.
