A Different Kind Of Guy: Robert Law
I remember receiving one of Robert's catalogues in 1972. It didn't take me long to develop an enormous desire to buy one or two (or more) of Robert's airguns. Although high on desire for those guns, I was very low on cash and to be perfectly honest about it, low on credit too. NEVERTHELESS, Robert allowed me the privilege of putting some money down and then paying it off in installments. I was never charged interest and I was able to receive the rifle (a beautiful Bavarian 55-N with scope and sling) immediately as though I bought it with cash! Robert made one of my early dreams come true. He put his trust in a kid he'd never met and I honored that trust by paying that rifle off as fast as I could. I also bought a scoped Smith & Wesson 5-G pistol a year or so later that I enjoyed immensely. He ALWAYS made sure the gun was ready for the customer's use. You never got any unwelcome surprises with Bob Law!
I talked with him once on the phone. I was so surprised that he even picked up the phone but once on, he gave me all the time in the world. He patiently (and I emphasize the word patiently) answered all my many questions.
Finally, Robert Law (I thought of him as Bob) always anssered my letters in full. I wrote long letters with many questions but it didn't seem to matter to Bob. He answered each one of them as though I was the most important person he ever knew. That was roughly 40 years ago and yet, I remember how respected he made a particular young man feel. Yes, it was a different world back then but more importantly as regards this very true story, Robert 'Bob' Law was a different kind of guy! He'll be missed of course. People of Bob's caliber always are. Still, with that said, Bob left many great memories and touched alot of lives!
